Council and Burnie Police have recently received an increase in the number of complaints regarding the unlawful use of off road vehicles in residential and rural areas. The term, off road vehicle, includes trail bikes, mini bikes, 4 wheel motor cycles, pocket rockets and go karts. A particular area of concern is the unlawful use of off road vehicles in the View Road Reserve (old tip site). This area is a popular off leash dog area and walking area for families. The community have reported frightening encounters with off road vehicles in this reserve and what is worse, these vehicles are being operated in a dangerous manner. These off road vehicles are also damaging the reserve and costing the ratepayers to repair. Under no circumstances will Council tolerate off road vehicles in a Council reserve. Offenders will be prosecuted. Council urge all members of the public who have information concerning the unlawful use of off road vehicles and the identity of offenders to provide that information to police on 131 444 or by contacting Burnie Police directly.
