Council meeting last evening and a lot was covered. I missed two - TopicsExpress

Council meeting last evening and a lot was covered. I missed two special meetings. One was to pick the engineering firm to do the tower, and another concerning the financing and epa concerns. The Mayor didnt approve of the councils choice, Oh really?, and wanted to discuss the vote and the why only four member were there and what the two absent members would have done had they been there etc, etc, etc. All useless time wasters and very childish. I dont favor one side or the other if possible but the juvenile bickering is quite shocking actually. Dont get me wrong I love a lively debate as much as a smooth meeting, but the mayors position has no basis in fact or even actually what happened, its like a childs argument for not getting an ice cream cone or something...Its bringing up a fantasy and arguing about it. OK thats about all the venom Im putting out right now, just an attention getter really. They had a second reading of the new trash ordinance and again stated that Beggars night will be Oct. 30 from 6pm to 7:30 pm with no party afterward. The police patrols for the summer are finished and no renewal is needed. I personally feel its an expense not needed in our safe town even if I thought cops lurking around reduced crime. and I do not. A highway patrol car speeding through town once in a while is all I need to remind me I could get stopped for speeding.. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Oct. 14 and a tree commission meeting will be Oct. 29, dont quote me on the date of that one. Walnut Street has a sink hole in it somewhere that needs attention, its needs to be dug up and investigated further. Council accepted the clerks report and voted to donate $500 to the Friends of the Library again. A Gary Shelty, a representative of Family Dollar stores gave a short presentation about buying some land near the depot between Buckeye Street and about half way to Main for a possible new store. He was actually giving a heads up about sewer and other utility concerns and possibilities. He said jobs would be based on business demands but guessed from 7 to 10 employees would be needed if this comes about. Not predicting the future, but I hold that any business is probably good for BC. This is not a complete, and maybe not entirely accurate, report of what happen and as always Rubin should have a better summery. I love BC and everyone in and around it. I thank the Mayor and the Council and the other city employees for making this place the place I want to live. To pay these people what they are worth to the town would be impossible for such a small place and I thank them all for their volunteer efforts that make it a better place.
