Council to invite Crown Manager to oversee consenting The Christchurch City Council has announced that this afternoon’s planned meeting with four government Ministers has been cancelled. Tomorrow, at a special meeting of Council at 12:45pm, a resolution will be put to invite the Minister for Local Government, Chris Tremain, to put in place a Crown Manager to oversee the Council’s consents department. Following the meeting, Councillors will meet with the Minister who will discuss the terms of reference for the Crown Manager. Mayor Bob Parker says, “It’s crucial that the community and the Government have complete confidence in the robustness of the consents process which is vital for the city’s rebuild. “The situation around building consents is serious, and it has become apparent that Councillors have not been well served by the information that has been provided to us.” Christchurch City Council Chief Executive Tony Marryatt is taking leave pending further discussions with the Council. General Manager City Environment, Jane Parfitt, will be acting Chief Executive. Media release here - ccc.govt.nz/thecouncil/newsmedia/mediareleases/2013/201307031.aspx
