Council would like to advise residents that a fire commenced this afternoon in the greenwaste pile at the Lakes Creek Road Landfill. Emergency crews and Council crews are on site containing and managing the fire, which was suspected to have been sparked by a piece of metal passing through the mulching machine. Due to the smoke and poor visibility, the landfill has been partially closed. The only type of waste that can be disposed of during this time is greenwaste. Customers will be directed to an unaffected pile by the on-site officer at the main gate. Residents are advised to keep doors and windows closed and medication on hand if suffering from a respiratory illness. Council apologises for any inconvenience.
