Councillor Pat Knight Reports; Education secretary Michael Gove - TopicsExpress

Councillor Pat Knight Reports; Education secretary Michael Gove has made a u-turn on his plan to strip Doncaster MBC of its responsibility for children’s services. In a letter to elected mayor Ros Jones (Lab), Mr Gove said he “agreed in principle” with the council’s alternative proposal, in which the services would be run by an independent trust that was designed and commissioned by the council. Under this alternative plan, ultimate accountability would remain with the local authority. In a statement Ms Jones said: “I am pleased the secretary of state has rephrased his initial views and supports how we would wish to progress his original ‘arm’s length trust’ proposal. “Supported by our partners, we put forward a compelling and well thought out case as to why this was the correct approach for transforming how children’s services are delivered across the borough.” Click on the link below to read more from the Local Government Chronicle Plus article.
