Councillor Seamus Butler has vowed to ‘put his best foot forward’ when he joins a host of Longford’s best known faces and takes to the stage in the Longford Arms Hotel on February 7th as ‘Longford Goes Strictly Dancing’. In total thirty two locals have been taking part in vigorous training sessions over the past few weeks in preparation for the big day which has been organised to raise funds for both the Attic Teen House Project and the Temperance Hall. Cllr Butler joins a number of well known Longfordians in the line up including Enda Flynn, Declan Kenny, Dec Flynn, Paddy Hanlon, Sean Considine, Niall Gannon, Kevin Hussey, Colin Dalton, Donagh McDonnell, John Duignan, Donal Daly, Jim Maher, Trevor McHugh, Joe Flaherty and Gerry Warnock. The eager volunteers are being paired with Susan Ryan, Angela Brady, Colette Reynolds, Perpetua Neary, Kathleen Mahon, Siobhán Connolly, Teresa Gilchriest, Edel Penrose and Patricia McKiernan, Sharon Dunne Donnelly, June Donlon, May Campbell, Liz Hourican, Deirdre Monahan, Deirdre McNiven and Lorraine Fay – all under the excellent guide ship of Choreographer and Director Lorraine Wynne of Midland Drama Schools. The local charities which will benefit from this event do great work for Longford, said Cllr Butler, who points out that the Attic Youth Café “provides a safe and vibrant youth service and a full programme of events and activities to almost 2,000 young people in the Longford area.” The Youth Café recently acquired a new base which it is hoped will help them develop even more facilities and further enhance existing ones for the county’s young people. It is hoped that Longford’s Strictly Come Dancing event will go some way towards helping provide some of the funds required to maintain the Attic’s ongoing facilities. An equally deserving recipient of this event is Longford’s Temperance Hall which hosts many events including Girl Guides and sports activities. Each participant is hoping to raise funds with individual sponsorship cards and tickets to this much anticipated event, which takes place on February 7th at 8p.m., are available in a number of local outlets, including Torc Café, Farrell & Coy and the Temperance Hall at a cost of just €20. Please support this very worthy cause.
