Count-to-date is 8,101 raptor migrants, and over the next two weeks, accipiters and falcons will become the most abundant species. American kestrels, sharp-shinned and Coopers hawks will be seen daily with merlin, peregrine falcons and osprey seen, particularly on windy days when up to 20 merlins, 10 peregrines and 30 ospreys are possible. Best flights will follow a cold front, when hawks take advantage of northwest winds, which cause updrafts. Other migrants this week: blue jay, American robin, American goldfinch, yellow-rumped warbler and cedar waxwings. Have a great week, friends!
