Countdown: 50 songs of the last millennium. People do not - TopicsExpress

Countdown: 50 songs of the last millennium. People do not associate football with music, but thanks to a friendly neighbour whose radio used to be always on, I do. In the mid-1970s, on weekends and on holidays, in the morning / afternoon, I and my brother used to play football on our balcony. Manchahi Geet / Aap ki farmaish / etc. would provide the background music. It was like mixing pleasure with pleasure. What more could kids want than football and music. Or music and football, in that order. Among the songs I have devoured during that time, few stand out. This song is one of them. People have accused Jaidevs compositions of being too complex for the common man, but I have found most common men and women loving this song. Such a stand out melody. I have not seen the film. Not the video either. I dont think the film was released at all. Maybe sporadically, for a limited period at a few locations. Pavan Jha tells me that the film was named Pyaasi Aurat initially. Satish Kaul and Rehana Sultan were not names big enough to sell films. The director B R Ishara, after a spate of flops following the hit Chetna, had lost considerable clout at the box office. Could be reasons why the film, in spite of brilliant music, remained locked up inside cans. The youtube video I found is a montage of the song with footage from another film. I preferred to ignore the visuals. There used to be an ad where this song had actually been used (in 1977/78), but I failed to locate the ad on the net. In retrospect, I feel that the song does not need the backing of any visuals and can be adored on its own. Was forced to leave this out of my selection.. maybe someday Ill compile my fav 500. Just a thought :) https://youtube/watch?v=DuFqOua2grc
