Countdown: 50 songs of the last millennium. Whenever we Pancham fans have discussed Aja piya, there has been, almost inevitably, a mention of another song. Some prefer Aja piya, while the musically discerning, for example Archisman Mozumder, prefer the other song. Wanted to go back in time while I was on this .In early 1986, a particular T series cassette - Lata solos , vol 3 - used to move around, from room to room, on C first Middle wing at R K Hall. The collection was unlike the normal fare of Yeh zindagi usi ki hai and Pyar kiya toh drana kya, and I have known friends who too remember this collection for its exclusivity. Some of the songs which I recall offhand are - SJs Re aane wale aa (Kahin aur Chal), Madan Mohans Betaab dil ki (Hasnte Zakhm) and Khelo na mere dil se (Haqueeqat). And this song- which I wanted to be sung during our TMS show. It was with some trepidation that I initiated the dialogue with Nagamani, the best singer I had ever known at Kgp. Tried teaching her the nuances in my Kishoresque style, realized that this technique could backfire, and just handed her the cassette. The show happened in April, and it is unfortunate that we did not have a recording of her rendition. In any case, one can always go back to the original..
