County Battery – Case Study COMPANY BACKGROUND County Battery Services is a family-run business, established in 1974. It supplies batteries for basically anything that is battery powered. From modern and classic cars, commercial vehicles, plant, motorcycles, industrial, mobility, golf buggies, emergency, alarm, cordless phones, digital cameras, battery-operated toys and other household appliances, County Battery has a battery to fit. A range of chargers, testing equipment, automotive bulbs and other battery accessories is also available. THE CHALLENGE Having previously had a number of e-commerce websites, County Battery was getting increasingly frustrated with having to ask their website provider to make changes. This often meant that it took days to apply price changes or add new products. The old website has passed its peak in performance and with an ever growing inventory of stock, it was no longer cost effective to maintain. As previous websites were built using proprietary systems this presented a significant business continuity risk to its rapidly growing on-line sales channel. PURPOSE MEDIA APPROACH The primary aim was to provide County Battery with an e-commerce website that they could update easily, and which several in-house people could be trained how to use. We took a clear design brief and mapped out the processes they wanted customers to follow to complete their web purchases. We provided a wordpress CMS with SagePay payment to ensure seamless integration with accounting and stock control. Ease of navigation was also a crucial factor. To prevent costly returns and re-ordering errors, web visitors had to be able to easily identify the right battery for their needs. We worked hard with the County Battery team to build filters and other tools into the website functionality to help this process. This included a matrix of filters and the ability to search by application, battery type, usage and brand name. THE OUTCOME County Battery Services now has a fully functional e-commerce website that they can update easily within minutes. A team of staff has been trained on the system and it is easy to train new people to ensure knowledge is transferred internally. The new website CMS meets the requirements of Google search algorithms and County Battery now enjoys prominent rankings for many of its keywords, products and search phrases.
