County FA Challenge Trophy - Semi-Final Morley Town AFC 1-4 Settle United – 26/03/13 Decisions Prove Costly On The Night full-time.thefa/DisplayFixture.do?id=13516135 t.co/UZTzCLV1D4 Settle United will face Honley in the County FA Challenge Trophy Final on Wednesday 23rd April 2014 following their 4-1 victory over Morley Town AFC at Fleet Lane. Based in North Yorkshire, newly crowned Division One champions of the Mastabs Restaurant Craven & District Football League deserved their victory for putting in an all-round superb performance from start to finish. However, they did have a little bit of “Lady Luck” here and there along the way especially when Jovan Kioseff’s effort inside the first ten minutes was ruled out for offside. Town have been guilty for not clearing their lines in recent weeks and this was certainly the case when Daniel Bathers tapped in from close range for the opening goal of the night. Kevin Mackay thought he had equalised on the half hour mark when he waltzed his way through into the box before getting a shot in but this was also wiped out, it was reminiscent of Luis Garcia’s “Ghost Goal” which stood on that occasion for Liverpool against Chelsea in the 2005 Champions League Semi-Final 2nd Leg. Kioseff had another opportunity just before the half-time interval when he was in the right place at the right time but fired over the crossbar from an inch-perfect cross which was made to measure by Matthew Ibbotson. Club captain Marc Haley’s long range free-kick from distance early on in the 2nd half went like a tracer bullet and Samuel Arrowsmith in the Settle goal could only parry it away partially because of the power and nobody was on hand to follow up the rebound. Dale Orange was tripped just outside the box and another free-kick was awarded by referee Allen Haywood, this time Mackay felt confident and stepped up to the plate only to see his attempt rattle the stanchion pole. John Beckwith doubled their lead finishing off a well worked move from down the right when he peeled away from his marker and coolly finished under no pressure whatsoever as Town’s passing game and first touch went totally out of the window. Mackay pulled a goal back for Town with a bullet header from a Ben Holdsworth corner but Beckwith restored their 2-goal cushion more or less straight away from the restart. The impressive centre forward completed his hat-rick deep into injury time with Assistant Referee David Brayshaw once again in the spotlight following a goalmouth scramble when he had adjudged that the ball had crossed the line leaving Settle dumfounded to rub salt into Morley’s wounds. Everybody connected within Morley Town AFC would like to show their appreciation to Martin Oddy of Capital Credit (Leeds) Ltd for coming forward and sponsoring the game. Club Secretary Noel Bullock added “It’s fantastic to see local businesses supporting the local community”.
