County Reps threaten to impeach Ojaamong over ward fund The members of Busia County Assembly have threatened to move a motion of no confidence against Busia County governor Sospeter Ojaamong if he will not release ward development fund. Speaking at the County assembly buildings yesterday evening, the MCAs led by the Implementation committee chairperson Fred Musirimba accused the governor for failing to issue the money to enable them initiate various projects in their wards, “We are issuing a seven days ultimatum to the governor to issue the money or else we move the motion of vote of no confidence against him and his entire cabinet (executive committees). They alleged that it’s them who are being asked hard questions by locals in the wards while the governor goes on with his daily businesses without any disturbance. They also decried lack of development in the county, a situation they said must be corrected, “Let us speak the truth, if you move around the county there is nothing good to talk of in terms of development and we must correct this situation, we need to develop our wards and county,” stated Hon. Chris Nakitari. However, Busia County Executive member for finance Leonard Obimbira defended the governor against the allegations and accusations saying it’s the Controller of budget who was delaying the release of the money, “Even our MCAs are aware that the Controller of budget Mrs. Agnes Odhiambo is yet to release the money for the wards development and it’s not Hon. Ojaamong’s fault.” He however didn’t explain why the County government has been silent on the issue for that long. Early this year, Busia County Assembly passed the Ward Development Fund appropriation Bill 2013 which gave County government authority to give each of the 35 wards in the county ten million shillings for development. MCAs have been waiting for the money to initiate projects and fulfill their promises to the electorate.
