County unanimously votes to cut up credit cards SNOW HILL—The county is now the owner of one credit card, following Monday’s 4-0 vote by the Greene County Board of Commissioners. The action came in response to an incident involving an employee, who contacted a credit card company and increased the county’s credit card limit without the knowledge of the interim county manager or interim finance officer. The Local Government Commission recommends the county adopt a “strict credit card policy,” said interim County Manager Richard Hicks. Upon further research, Hicks and Sandy Barss, interim finance officer, found that the county has several credit cards, including cards to banks, Wal-mart, Lowe’s and Sam’s Club. The county recently received a monthly statement for a Sam’s Club credit card with a $4,500 balance. There is no documentation in board meetings showing where commissioners authorized any of the credit cards to be opened, Hicks said.
