Couple held for land grabbing CHENNAI: A couple from Virugambakkam were arrested on Monday on charges of forging documents and taking possession of land worth 1.45 crore belonging to a doctor on Monday. Police identified the arrested as Sarala Devi and Venkatesan of Virugambakkam. Dr Murugan and his wife Nithya owned 2,760 square feet of land at Perumbakkam. On June 13, the couple went to inspect their land and found an apartment complex being constructed there. Locals told them the building belonged to Sarala Devi, Venkatesan and his relative Ravi. The doctor and his wife lodged a complaint with Chennai city police commissioner S George. CCB police registered cases under IPC section 420 (cheating), 447 (punishment for criminal trespass), and 471 (using forged documents as genuine). Interrogation revealed that the three forged the documents in a sub-registrar office and took possession of the land. The couple were remanded in judicial custody.
