Course Description: Students will learn to express their artistic ideas using a digital camera. This course will be a mixture of lecture, discussion, research, and fieldwork. Students will explore the history of photography with a special emphasis on photojournalism and portraiture. Each student will complete a photo essay expressing his or her ideas about their community and their place in it. Goals: At the conclusion of this course, the student will be able to: 1. Create, edit, and print digital photographs in a variety of styles. 2. Create a photo essay on the theme of “My Community.” 3. Analyze the formal elements (design and composition) in photographs. 4. Identify political, economic and social influences on photography and photographers.
