Court dismisses appeal Repeka Nasiko Monday, March 17, 2014 THE Fiji Court of Appeal has ordered the Ministry of Works and Energy and the Attorney-Generals Office to pay the sum of $69,880 — and an additional $10,000 in court costs — to Lautoka company Chase Corporation. The ruling followed an appeal by the two government departments against a Lautoka High Court decision in September 2012 where both were ordered to pay the company about $151,000. According to the court, Chase Corporation had filed a lawsuit against the Ministry of Works in 2005 claiming for damages after the government department failed to return an excavator that was used for drainage works in the Yasawas in 1998. The machine was returned in 2000 — two years after its use. The company had initially filed for damages of about $757,360.
