Courtesy Posting for the Dakota County Historical Society MILL CITY STRING TRIO AT THE LEDUC HISTORIC ESTATE Thanks to the generosity of the Vermillion Bank Foundation the Mill City String Trio will be performing at the LeDuc Historic Estate, 1629 Vermillion Street, Hastings, MN on Sunday, March 23, 3 p.m. The March 23 concert is open to the public. The Mill City String Trio (a part of the Mill City String Quartet) will perform a Beethoven Trio and three tangos. Reservations MUST be made, as seating is limited. Call 651-437-7055 today to make a reservation. A suggested donation of $7 per person would be greatly appreciated. Light refreshments will be served following the concert. The Mill City String Quartet was founded in Minneapolis/St. Paul during the fall of 2007 with the intention of studying and performing the major works of the classical repertoire. The group has given many performances and services to audience members and clients. They have worked with students in the Monticello and Andover School Districts and have received coaching themselves from notable musicians including Tom Rosenberg, Kathe Jarka, and Karen Kim. The quartet released a recording of Christmas music entitled, Christmas in Mill City, in November of 2011. It continues to be played on Minnesota Public Radio throughout the holiday season. Members of the trio perform regularly with the Dakota Valley Symphony, Kantorei Chamber Choir, Mankato Symphony Orchestra, and Minnesota Opera Company. The musicians are Erika Hoogeveen, violin; Valerie Little, viola; and Jeffrey Erbland, cello. Each of these musicians comes to us with an enviable list of accomplishments. - Erika Hoogeveen received her Masters Degree in violin performance and Suzuki pedagogy at the University of Minnesota. Erikas Bachelor of Arts Degree in violin performance was completed at Dordt College in Sioux Center, IA. A founding member of the Mill City String Quartet, she was recently named associate concertmaster of the Dakota Valley Symphony Orchestra. She has performed with a variety of groups, including South Dakota Symphony, Kantorei, Mankato Symphony, Exultate, Mannheim City Symphony and Cherokee Symphony, and has attended the Bravo! and Norther Lights Music Festivals. Erika has been on the violin faculty of McPhail Center for the Arts, St. Josephs School of Music, and Dordt College in Sioux Center, IA. Currently, she teaches private lessons in her home in St. Paul. - Valerie Little is a Pennsylvania native and has spent recent summers studying at the Banff Centre, Round Top Festival Institute, and in Germany with renowned violinist, Barbara Westphal. Notable performances include appearing as soloist with the York Symphony Orchestra (PA), Mankato Symphony Orchestras Music on the Hill series, as well as performing Quincy Porters Suite for Viola Alone at the 38th International Viola Congress. In addition to a myriad of chamber music collaborations, Valerie has performed with the Minnesota Orchestra, Minnesota Opera, South Dakota Symphony, Quad Cities Symphony, and freelances in the Twin Cities area. She also maintains a private studio at City of Lakes Waldorf School and is the acting assistant principal librarian of the Minnesota Orchestra. - Jeffrey Erbland, a native of Fairport, NY, was privileged to enroll in the Eastman School of Musics college preparatory school in his younger years. After receiving diplomas in both Cello Performance and Music Theory from the school, Mr. Erbland continued on to receive hi B. M. in Cello Performance from the Wheaton College Conservatory in Wheaton, IL. He has received instruction from Rochester Philharmonic members and from Chicago Symphony Orchestra members. Mr. Erbland has traveled domestically and abroad with variour regional and honors symphonies, and has performed regularly with the Tulip Chamber Players and the Wheaton Chamber Players. He has studied chamber music with members of the Ying Quartet and the Chicago Lyric Opera, participating in master classes with the Tokyo String Quartet and with Peter Slowik of Oberlin Conservatory. Mr. Erbland currently performs regularly with the Mill City String Quartet and the Mankato Symphony Orchestra. He runs a home teaching studio, teaches at the Linden Hills House of Music, and completed his M. M. at the University of Minnesota.
