Courtesy Rolling Stone: Photographer Bob Minkin Photography tells us about shooting the Grateful Dead at Winterland Arena in San Francisco on 12/29/77. I got in early and made my way up to the front. I needed to be close if I wanted to take good photographs because I only had a 50mm lens on my new camera, a Minolta SRT 101. #JerryGarcia was already onstage, tuning up, and I could tell by his notes that the opener was going to be “Jack Straw.” At this point he looked directly at me. I paused, sort of mesmerized for a second. He looked so iconic and I pressed the shutter to capture this image. One of my favorites.
