Courtesy of Another Angry Voice: On this issue I totally agree with Caroline Lucas and the Green Party of England and Wales. Rail privatisation has been an absolute disaster for passengers and the taxpayer alike. The only beneficiaries being the profiteering companies that have been hoovering profit out of the rail network for two decades. The only reason theyve been able to soak so much profit out of the system is that the privatised rail network has been receiving far more in subsidies than it cost to run the whole of British Rail in the 80s and early 90s (this fact accounts for the effect of inflation). 68% of the population agree with the Greens and want to see the rail network renationalised too.
