Courtesy of Carl Cerezo - Here is Sutitsugu “Ted” Muragishi from California. During World War II, Ted and his family, along with many other Japanese Americans on the West Coast, were wrongfully placed in internment camps by the US Government. In 1949, Ted enlisted in the US Army, where he trained to be an infantryman. He was then assigned to the 38th Infantry Regiment of the 2nd Infantry Division, which would ship out to Pusan, South Korea in August 1950. He served in Korea with his fellow Warriors from holding the line in the Pusan Perimeter up until he was wounded in the Battle of Heartbreak Ridge on 10 October 1951. He was then evacuated back to the US and was subsequently discharged with no memorabilia from his service. Because of his ethnicity, he did not receive The Purple Heart for the wounds he sustained in Heartbreak Ridge until about a half century later. In this picture, taken in April 2014, Ted holds for the first time the “Indianhead” shoulder patch of the 2nd Infantry Division since he was evacuated 1951. The second picture is a shadow box created by US Marine Iraq Veteran Carl to commemorate Ted’s service and to remind him that his courage and sacrifice in “The Forgotten War” will never be forgotten. The third picture is the rear of the shadow box, which is signed by Carl, his Marine Veteran Brothers, and current US Marines and Army Soldiers. Ted is Carl’s stepsons’ great-grandfather whom he just met in April 2014. He opened up to Carl about his experiences and Carl plans on giving the shadow box to him for Christmas.
