Courtesy of Project Hawick Many Thanks wo~ A newspaper clipping showing Scottish Omnibuses conductors outside the old Hawick Bus Garage on Dovecote Street in 1956. The two storey depot opened under the management of the Scottish Motor Traction group (SMT), with services running under its Eastern Scottish subsidiary. In 1957 the garage was elevated to full depot status and given the district code L. In 1985, Lowland Scottish Omnibuses were created as part of the deregulation of the state owned SMT in preparation for eventual privatisation. Lowland took over the running of the depot until 1999, when it was amalgamated with other subsidiaries to form First Edinburgh Limited. Services changed gradually between company liveries, with Lowland colours and the First Group logo. Staff offices (upstairs to the right), were transferred to Oliver Crescent upon closure of the depot in April 2002. The final buses moved out in August of that year, with some now outstationed at Burnfoot Industrial Estate. Specialist Glass Designs Ltd (7-11 Dovecote Street) created a workshop in the garages in 2004, but the site has remained unused in recent years. Clipping © Darren Wilson
