Courtesy of Wanneroo Times Roos defy difficult conditions 22/Oct/2013 Ted Hussey Comments: WANNEROO Districts first grade cricket team had put themselves into a sound position with a score of 6-168 against Mt Lawley at Breckler Park in difficult conditions and had seen Mt Lawley score nine runs in reply when the heavens opened. The game was abandoned, but Wanneroo could boast good performances from opener Alex Burton, who top scored with 35, and wicketkeeper Colin Smith, who contributed an undefeated 29. The bowling was strengthened by the return of Gary Atkinson, and while he and Jack Catterall bent their backs in anticipation, the weather was the winner. Second grade drew with Mt Lawley at Kingsway where Donavin Fryer led the batting with 63, while Captain Nathan Henry made 43 which was most creditable in the conditions. Mt Lawley was 1-36 at the close of play. The under-17s made good use of the early morning sunshine at Stevens Reserve and with Conal Lynch producing a fine innings of 73 and Corey Rocchiccioli 36, the team put together a formidable total of 197. This match continues this weekend.
