Coventry musician Cliff Wagstaff has kindly donated his copy of the first ever issue of Umbrella ( a literary magazine produced by the Coventry Arts Umbrella Club in the late 50s and early 60s, one issue having been mentioned in Andrew Motions biography of Philip Larkin as having an essay by Larkin explaining his alleged put down of Coventry in I Remember I Remember. In this issue however we find an article on Alexandria poet CP Cavafy by EM Forster / AE Burrows on The Production of Shakespeare / poems by George MacBeth and Lucie-Smith / Smedleys Hydro by Geoffrey Demdike and much more.
