Cow Cud ~ Straw or Felt Over the past several years I have been - TopicsExpress

Cow Cud ~ Straw or Felt Over the past several years I have been blessed to live in a climate that was predominantly cool throughout the year. Even as I spend time in the panhandle working I have found that you still have those evenings that are cool . . . of course not as many as we would like. I have grown accustomed to wearing my lighter colored felt hat in the summer and my darker one in the winter. When you own a good hat . . . it just feels right when you place it on your head. As you reach to wipe the sweat off your brow the motion of removing your hat and placing it back on your head seems to be second nature. The inside is filled with a sweat ring that distinguishes it as my hat because of its shape and smell. The fact that the rain cascades slowly off the brim during a good rain . . . when we have rain, keeping your neck and head dry is another reason to always have a good hat. Another purpose for a good hat is that it can be a water container when you cannot find a cup anywhere in site . . . for your horse or yourself. I believe you can ask any good working man or woman the value of a hat and the reasons will be numerous. The real question is whether or not you should own and wear a hat, the real question is should it be straw or felt. In this hot climate of the southwest as the temperatures soar around the triple digit mark it is good to keep your head covered and cool. The need for ventilation is very important and a straw hat is essential to keeping your head comfortable and shaded during these hot months. It does not matter whether you prefer a straw hat . . . or whether you are more accustomed to a felt hat . . . both serve a good purpose. A good hat provides comfort and is almost like having another close friend ~ it will stick with you through thick and thin. I believe it reminds me of my relationship with the Trail Boss upstairs. He provides me with the comfort I need in the good times and the bad. It might just be time to go out and buy that new straw hat I have been wanting. Hmmm! Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles . . . 2 Corinthians 1:3
