Cowboy ChalleNGe welcomes new class CAMP GUERNSEY, Wyo. - The Wyoming National Guards Cowboy ChalleNGe Academy recently congratulated 33 members of Class 21 for completing the programs most difficult two-week portion, the Acclimation Period. The transitional Recognition Ceremony marked the beginning of the academic period of the program along with other training, education and mentoring activities. Cowboy ChalleNGe provides troubled teens with a structured 5 1/2 month in-resident program, helping them to reclaim their lives and develop skills needed to be successful in life. Core Components of the program include academics, citizenship, life-coping skills, civic service, leadership, and physical fitness. The Acclimation Period introduced enrolled youth to a structured system of living which included a healthy, three meals per day diet, a regular regimen of physical fitness, and counseling services to those who needed help. To enroll in the program, prospective male and female cadets must be between 16-18 years old and academically withdrawn from high school. Youth cannot be court ordered to attend; Cowboy ChalleNGe is a voluntary program. Class 21 includes teenagers from 12 Wyoming counties and two neighboring states. The next class begins this summer. Completed applications must be received by July 3, and attendees begin on July 13.
