Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo has certainly earned the respect of his teammates by gutting through a serious back issue. But Thursday night, after a win over the Bears, he also mentioned a broken rib while appearing on NFL Network. Itll be nice when its just about the back instead of all the other junk, Romo later said, via ESPN, adding that the rib injury occurred earlier this season either in a game against the Rams (Sept. 21) or the Saints (Sept. 28). While we might never know the extent of the injuries Romo has played through, his resume is already absurdly long. There was the punctured lung back in 2011 and the cartilage tear back in 2008. If nothing else, his desire to be on the field cant be questioned. Romo admitted that he did not take any pain-killing medication prior to the teams loss to Philadelphia last week, which he said was a poor decision. He said hell likely get a shot before their next game, also against the Eagles, on Dec. 14. At the moment, Dallas looks like a team that is doing its best to avoid the late-season collapses that have defined the organization over the last few years. For one, they will finish with a winning record for the first time under Jason Garrett, a testament to the coachs ability to finally organize his staff and delineate power where it needs to be. But Romos latest -- not to mention another heavy workload from DeMarco Murray -- makes us wonder how much gas theyll have left in the tank by the time they get there. If they can somehow beat the Eagles in Philly next week, Garrett may need to get creative with his remaining schedule in order to give some of his stars a break.
