Cracks Emerging In Jubilee’s URP: William Ruto vs Isaack Ruto (The headache) Posted in: Opinion|August 18, 2013 0 inShare BY: SOSPETER OTIENO Cracks are fast emerging in Jubilee’s URP over Cord’s Referendum push as Ruto begs the reluctant and adamant Bomet’s Kalenjin Governor Isaac Ruto to abandon the Referendum push…. Uhuru’s Deputy and co-genocide suspect WSR seems afraid that even a 40% vote in favor of the Referendum by the Kalenjin would render him politically irrelevant, read drive the last nail onto his imminent political coffin and obituary. And so Ruto is jinxed, doomed if he does and damned if he doesn’t support the referendum. And Uhuru is set, he has many options for coalitions, up to and including the colorless and unprincipled Musalia Mudavadi. Besides, “Kamwana” has already stuffed Jubilee with numerous tiny political parties whose combined strengths is intended to forestall any URP rebellion within Jubilee. And these are the entities that support the joint Jubilee secretariat, a euphemism for dissolution of TNA satellite parties in submission to the TNA led Jubilee secretariat which URP is opposed to. That leaves Ruto encircled by the TNA political juggernaut. Rift Valley needs the money for cattle dips and developing its rich tourism potential and circuit, but like the numerous miscalculating politicians Ruto is choosing stomach over the interests of his base. He wants to keep his DP position at the detriment of his own people, not a very selfless approach to politics. Call it the “Moody Awori curse”. Ruto, “the writing is on the wall, its either you stand by your people who stood by you in 2013, or go the path of “Loyal Vice Presidents” before you”. This is Ruto’s “Mau Forest moment” and as he will learn, his political base never forgives, they got done with Moi even though he was president for 24 yrs, and spoilt them with positions upon positions, I doubt with the “nusu boflo” Ruto will manage to keep the multi-dialect Kalenjin contented. They abandoned “Arap Mibei”, a man they had adopted 5 yrs earlier in 2007, when they fell for Ruto’s lies about Raila’s culpability in the Mau forest evictions. Well Ruto is DP yet 6 months in power and counting those evictees have never been resettled. If Ruto insists on being the “stooge and yes man” of his appointing authority; then its time for us to start preparing ourselves for who the next Kalenjin kingpin would be. And look no further than the indefatigable Marxist political operative Isaac Ruto. And Rutto’s political programs will thrive because there’s intense interest in financing his political operations from either side of the political divide, am sure the TNA faction of Jubilee loves this Rutto idea, and only a “foolish Raila” wouldn’t fancy a rise of Isaac. Thats why his fundraising machine would flow with money from both the mountain and the Lake. As Ruto would be busy fighting to evade the gallows at the Hague, Isaac would be the face of the Kalenjin and maybe URP leading the Kalenjin and maybe URP in the Yes side of the Referendum push. By the time Ruto’s case would be over the Isaac would have upstaged William as the Kalenjin political Supremo. And people don’t think about this, what if Ruto is jailed? Isaac has already positioned himself in readiness for that eventuality, as Keter et al continue to hang onto “William Ruto’s ill-fated coat tails”. Kalenjins love brave men, people who can stand up to the Establishment with their 2 “barnos”. And that’s why they abandoned Kipruto arap Kirwa after he started “licking Kibaki’s boot”. Kipkalya Kones, had he been alive, would have checked William Ruto big time, thanks to his bravery. I have no doubt that Isaac is embodying the spirit of Kioitalel Samoei, Jean Marie Seroney, Alexander Kipsang Muge and Kipkalya Kones, people who have earned a “real estate” in the Kalenjin walls of fame for their valor and candor, Kalenjin leadership virtues that continue to deny Ruto an honorable and venerable ending. Ruto built his profile by standing up to Moi at a time when it was taboo to do so. But now his mellowing and metamorphosis into an apologist of the Uhuru status quo, spells doom for his political future. And with Kibaki appointees turned Uhuru’s friends presently occupying strategic security and intelligence positions, they are the custodians of any ICC evidence, against Ruto that probably continues to be with-held for as long as he is a ‘good boy” who does their bid. Any militant stance by Ruto would be counteracted with damaging evidence against Ruto (that continue to be with-held by the Security agencies) being channeled to Bensouda. Am talking about selective co-operation with ICC, whereby any files to do with Ruto are handed to Bensouda efficiently and efficaciously while those to with Kamwana are with-held. And that is why I doubt Ruto will stand up against Uhuru like Raila stood up against his co-Principal Mwai Kibaki. But as William continues to be bound by these chains of bondage and slavery, Isaac Rutto’s star will continue to shine brightly, the power balance in the RV will shift especially if ICC rules to incarcerate William.
