Craigs Constitutional Corner - I wanted to talk tonight about the ninth amendment of the Bill of Rights. It is one amendment that is not talked about often but was very important at the time of ratification. It simply states: The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people. So what does that mean? Like most things our federal government has twisted this but the true meaning is along these lines. There are other rights that may exist aside from the ones explicitly mentioned in the constitution and the bill of rights. Even though certain rights are not listed, that does not mean those rights do not exist. Since they are rights given to you at birth the federal government cannot and shall not violate those rights. That is it; you have rights as a person not even listed, so the federal government is to be held to the eighteen enumerated powers and is not to violate your rights. Knowledge is power, stand together as Americans. Together we can do anything. – Craig McMichael
