Cranes to field CHAN team for Cecafa event The technical committee of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has decided the team that qualified for the 2014 CHAN event will be entered for the forthcoming Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup. Mujib Kasule, a member of the committee and a Vice President in-charge of the League, disclosed to MTNFootball on Sunday night that they have decided that the Cranes will defend the Senior Challenge Cup using the same team that qualified for CHAN event. “We shall not be bringing professionals like we have done in the past to play in this regional tournament because we want the team heading for the CHAN competition in South Africa to prepare well and use the Cecafa event as a build-up,” explained Kasule. Uganda Cranes qualified for their second successive CHAN event last weekend after humbling Taifa Stars of Tanzania 3-1 at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole. The team, handled by Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic, qualified on a 4-1 goal aggregate. The team’s coach also explained that there is no better way to try out the team in the Senior Challenge Cup in December before the CHAN tournament in January. “By playing in the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup, we shall have many games to tune the team,” said Micho, who added that many more players still have the chance to make the team. The other teams that have so far qualified for the 2014 CHAN event include; Ethiopia, Nigeria, Mauritania, Morocco, Angola, Ghana, Libya, Burkina Faso and hosts South Africa.
