Crazy Taxi A 1989 Nissan Bluebird 1.8 GS… doesn’t exactly get the blood flowing does it? In the UK you couldn’t get a more stereo-typical Mini-Cab. It’s the sort of car that conjures up images of beaded seat covers, magic trees and no smoking signs. However if you’ve ever visited Retro-Rides you’re more than likely aware of the motto ‘Everything had potential’. Time and time again the members take something distinctly average and boring and make something that drops jaws to the pavement. So it’s no surprise that this little gem comes from the Retro-Rides stable too. Belonging to regular poster Count Pandamonium, it was bought as a completely standard Automatic back in December. Although in his own words it wasn’t setting the world on fire it was however remarkably clean and extremely comfortable to drive. But, as is often the case, clean and comfortable is never enough. Soon the Bluebird was being looked at with lusting eyes, deciding the wheel trims had to go they were whipped off in favour of a set of larger Primera steels which were mated up to a small drop courtesy of Mr. A. Grinder. But this wasn’t enough, the Taxi needed some girth and it’s prayers were answered in the form of the 14×7 Wolfrace Slotmags you see here. Initially on massive tyres and with a virtually standard ride-height the look just didn’t quite work but as is often the case some smaller tyres and another visit to Mr. Grinders surgery transformed the car. Now sitting pretty the Bluebird has become one of my must see cars of the Summer as it just shows even the most bland cars can really stand out with a bit of creative thinking.
