Create a future locally... So much of what we define as ‘our town’ comes from the local economy. No GAA team can exist without people to play, if no jobs exist nearby then that fades away. Bars and pubs see their patrons disappear and a ripple effect ensues. Localities are fragile things. When we say shop local we’re not talking about token gestures to your local community. It’s about defining where you live and what future it will have. What is it that you really want where you live to be? So remember that shopping locally shouldn’t just be for Christmas, it should be for life. The life of a town, a community or the life of a parish. It is more imperative now than it has ever been to make sure that monies stay in areas where it can provide a sustainable future and attract investment from the outside in. People are defined by place, but so is business. So for Christmas and beyond remember — don’t just give money to local business, give a future. Support your local businesses wherever and whenever you can. Kehlan Kirwan, The Irish Examiner #shoplocal #supportLocalBusiness
