Create a habitat for native bees - a free workshop at The Habitat - TopicsExpress

Create a habitat for native bees - a free workshop at The Habitat community native plant nursery and food garden 251 Quarry Road, Ryde 10.30 am to 11.30 am on Saturday 25th October. We are excited to have Tanya Latty leading this workshop. She is an interesting speaker and has recently run a research project which encompassed The Habitat gardens. By pollinating plants, bees play an absolutely crucial role in our environment. In fact, 75% of our fruits and veggies are dependent on bees for their pollination. When most of us think of bees, we think of the little yellow and black honey bee, Apis meliferra. But did you know that Australia is home to 1600 different types of bees, 300 of which live within the Sydney Basin? These range from tiny black stingless bees, to the big and fussy teddy bear bee. In this workshop, you will learn how to safely catch and identify common species of native bees. You will learn about the amazing ecology and behaviour of native bees. We will also discuss things you can do to create bee-friendly outdoor spaces. Please RSVP as places at the workshop will be limited. Please either email [email protected] or call Bev on 0419 206 253.
