Create your own story. We love sharing different views of Canberra and Kevin Thornhill Photographys certainly is a colourful one. The British photographer moves to Canberra from London, UK in December 2012 and the first thing that gripped him about Canberra were the seasons that reminded him of his old home. “My inspiration stems from a number of sources around Canberra, including the incredible sunrises and sunsets and the nature reserves in and around Canberra that are full of flora and fauna,” Kevin said. “The sky in Australia has always looked so much bigger in comparison to the London skyline which is cluttered with history and high rise buildings. I enjoy capturing the light that cascades the numerous lakes in Canberra especially while on my daily bus commutes. “My other favourites are the vistas from Red Hill, Mount Stromlo and the arboretum, which are all spectacular.” The diversity, support and celebration of the numerous cultures in Canberra is another source of stimulus for the photographer, who began capturing portraits of local Canberrans for a project Can I take your Portrait. When it comes to capturing great images, Kevin’s best tip is to be prepared. “For example during my daily bus commutes, as I approach what I believe to be a good photo opportunity, I open the camera app on my iPhone and press my iPhone against the window of the bus to avoid reflections. By doing this it also helps stop the camera from shaking by having it in a stable position,” he said. Message us if you have a story to share. kbtimages.co.uk instagram/kbtimages
