Creating Ownership Through Self Help Groups Our effort is to at least provide you with basic facilities in a better way. This time we have formed an advisory group of different specialists who are already working in the field of water and sanitation. We have also connected the different departments and NGOs who are already working with you on the ground. With their suggestions, we are going to draw a set of guidelines applicable to all the slum areas in the city. We are going to try this. We are requesting every basti to create one self help group of women. We will hand it over to them. It is your basti. You can make it function in a better way. You have a better idea of the problems. Any outside agency would come with the motive of earning profit. So we want that the bastis should create self help groups of women so that the complex can be directly handed over to them. It would also create a sense of ownership among you. Ultimately we have to make it work properly. The toilet complexes presently open between 5 am in the morning and 10 pm at night. The ladies face the problem of where to go after 10 pm at night.
