Creating The Perfect Day: 7 Principles for Priority Living - Perfecting Your Performance – Todd Duncan PRINCIPLE #1: Increase Your Passion! Passion is what success is all about. Be excited by the prospect of having a perfect day, of going home 100% fulfilled every day. PRINCIPLE #2: Reduce Your Procrastination! You don’t have to be great to start but you have to start to be great. Take action now. Don’t let fear stop you. When you have faith in the future, the knowledge and skills to do what you need to do, and momentum from repeating an action until it is a new habit, then there will be no need to procrastinate. PRINCIPLE #3: Unlock Your Potential! You have more potential than you think. As Norman Vincent Peale says, “Anybody can do just about anything with himself that he really wants to and makes up his mind to do. We are all capable of greater things than we realize.” PRINCIPLE #4: Perfect Your Performance! The Law of the Dress Rehearsal says a practiced performance is an elevated performance. Play like you practice. To perfect your performance, you must be in the habit of practicing it. The goal is to build your systems so you are doing the right things the right way. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow said, “It takes less time to do a thing right than it does to explain why you did it wrong.” There are four things you can do right now to ensure that you are doing the right things the right way. -Master the art of observation. Observe what’s working and what isn’t. Ask yourself, “Am I so busy being busy that I’m not being productive?” -Model excellence. Join the Mastery Club and forge relationships with the best in the business. -Develop new strategies. If a strategy isn’t working, don’t stick with it. Be willing to try something new. -Submit to a plan of accountability. Commit yourself to doing all you can do to be your best now. PRINCIPLE #5: Power Up Your Perseverance! Remember the train that made it to the top of the mountain by saying, “I think I can. I think I can.” Like the train, your success isn’t a matter of if, it’s a matter of when. But you must persevere, especially when you’re faced with your toughest challenges. Don’t ever give up. Ninety-five percent of the people go 95% of the way and get only 5% of what’s available to them. You can be part of the small segment that goes 100% of the way and gets everything available to them. The key thing to remember is that your success happens one step at a time. If you persevere through every step, every change, and every challenge, your perfect day will be yours. PRINCIPLE #6: Make New Promises. Live Out Your Priorities! Promises are critical to priority living in three important ways. -Promises eliminate confusion. When you make a promise, it helps you focus. There is less difficulty in seeing what you should do and what your motivations are in doing it. Promise-making creates a more natural pull to the activities that you know will give you the life you desire. -Promises negate compromise. It is hard to be out of sync with your promises for any length of time. The promise will always bring you back to the central behavior and action that is critical to success. You are more unwavering and dogmatic with your time and the way you go about making sure the important things get done. -Promises increase commitment. When you make a promise that is values based, it is easier to have the commitment for that promise. The more you execute the promise, the more momentum you develop for other growth tasks. PRINCIPLE #7: Be purposeful in all that you do! When you are purposeful in all that you do, life changes. Make every choice in what you do, when you do it, why you do it, and how you do it on purpose. This filter will make life and business complete.
