Creative Animal Hand Paintings: Handimals by Guido Daniele Living and working in Milan, Italy, Guido Daniele is becoming world-renowned for his remarkable artistic animal recreations that are now known as ‘handimals’ – animals artistically drawn on the human hand. In 1972 Daniele graduated from Brera School of Arts where he majored in sculpture, shortly before taking a two year sabbatical in India at the Dankas school in Dharamasala. It was at this time that he also began work as a hyper-realistic illustrator for a number of advertising agencies which gave him the freedom he needed to explore new painting techniques. From 1986 Daniele began to concentrate more on airbrush art, which has seen him work across the full range of scales, culminating with working on a 400sqm background canvas for an artistic background. The germination of the seed for Daniele’s ‘handimals’ began in 1990 when he began to experiment with body art – not tattoos – which involved body painting for advertisements, fashion shows and exhibitions. The selection of ‘handimals’ we have chosen for you is a perfect cross-section of creations from this remarkable artist. With many of these images you can sense the incredible attention to detail is nothing short of testament to the hyper-realistic artistic skills Daniele learned in his earlier years. As you marvel at the sheer ingenuity of the images in these photos it is difficult to stop your eye jumping from one image to another as your mind keeps on demanding reassurance that these are indeed images. While some heads, like those of horses, the zebra, birds of prey and snakes have a natural form which lends itself to the shape of the human hand, that is where you would imagine this art form would stop. But no, the genius of Daniele is undeniable when you look at the crocodile, polar bear and cheetah images. However the most remarkable ‘handimal’ in our opinion is the elephant, which wins hands down, or hands up in this case.
