Creative Economy and Industries Director position- tonight the sub comittee, Ordinance Committeee voted to support the position being presented for a final vote before the entire City Council. This was largely a presentation put on by Jeff Bianchine and Marcos. Questions asked by attending CC members. The Sunset Clause of the original agreement for this position states that at the end of 2 years the Director must substantiate that he created an income that paid for his salary. This was Jordains basis of questioning ...if there was actually a direct correlation, monetarily, to the salary the city paid. Though Jordain illuded that they ahd done good work for the city and he would likely support the position, he was concerned that that requirement had not been met fully. Anthony stated that he would support the position but asked what had been done to open up events to the Latino population. Gordon Alexander supports the position, feels that criteria for judging the value of this position cannot just be associated with direct $s received but value as a whole and understands that this is going to take more than 2 years. He gave Jeff an opportunity to talk about some arts industry existing in the city. Jossie Valentine supports the position, and like several CC members who are not on the Green River Ordinance sub-committee gave of her time to listen and speak tonight. She clearly understands that this is a process and reffered to the side effects of starting a position like this and the positive side effects of the arts. Then she gave the current Side Effects exhibition a nice plug! (Thanks, Jossie.) mr. McGivern was very supportive again on this position and clearly understands the role and value that the arts could and do provide in our citys renewal. He was very complimentary of what Jeff has done so far. Bartley also supports the position, supports Jeffs efforts, and was very interested in the relocation and growth of the Holyoke Creative Arts Center. CC member Talman also spoke of support for the position. Though Linda Vacon did not speak, not likely she would support it and didnt last time. Jennifer Chateneuf also did not speak. In attendance were Kathy Mckean, Chris Nelson, and Janet Stupak...thanks to them, and they may like to add to this synopsis. And please forgive misspellings and typos.
