Credit Where Its Due Dept.: I feel compelled to proclaim today as Frank Maloney Day on Route 66, for making the biggest new find that I can remember in years. Specifically, a 5-panel, Warren Pony Truss bridge completely intact, located here: 35.375775,-99.4174. This is the 1926-1928 route out of Elk City. Barely discernible from the air, it was not discernible at all when I complied my bridge database in 2013, due to the trees and lower quality imagery. In mapping Oklahoma 66, I never saw a need to go over the gate and walk that section. Frank contacted me about five days ago and suggested we check out three possible bridge sites on that stretch, two of which are normally at the bottom of Elk City Lake, but are exposed at present. Roamin Rich was out there two days ago and did find one bridge ruin (the middle of the three). Today I went there with Shellee G. and McJerry and we documented all three sites. The crown jewel, of course, is shown below. Hats off to Frank!
