Credit where its due, this came out of a conversation on Lisa Tomeceks facebook feed (why is it not letting me tag her?), but I wanted to expand the conversation and get more people talking about this: Okay, so if one were to apply the “Dynasty Warriors” paradigm to the “Napoleonic Era” – basically, ranging from The French & Indian War, up through the American Revolution, into the French Revolution and then the Napoleonic Wars themselves… what sort of playable characters would you have, and what would their funky powers be? For those who haven’t played the Dynasty Warriors games, the basic idea was to take the Three Kingdoms era of China (or the Sengoku Jidai for Japan, in the Samurai Warriors games), and present famous historical (or semi-historical or outright fictional in some cases) figures as larger-than-life warlords with super kung fu powers and fighting ability, able to single-handedly clear hundreds of enemy soldiers of a battlefield. Think EXALTED THE VIDEO GAME, if that helps. For example, the famous strategist Zhuge Liang, often rumored to be a sorcerer in various accounts because of his strategic genius, would actually have real magic powers, firing out mystic lasers and firestorms from his signature item, the white feather signaling fan. Historical accuracy is not required, these games run on the RULE OF AWESOME. Is it cool to have someone take part in a battle even if they weren’t actually there, or if they never picked up a weapon in their life? Yes? Then go for it! So… how would that work in late 1700s – early 1800s? Some of the inclusions are obvious, like on the American faction - George Washington, Paul Revere, Ben Franklin (lightning attacks!), Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Payne, Benedict Arnold, Betsy Ross, the woman who rode along with Paul Revere whose name escapes me (thanks, Lisa, didn’t know about her!) the “Swamp Fox” guy whose real name I always forget… and then across the sea you’ve got Napoleon himself (without question the Big Boss of the game, like Nobunaga in a Samurai game), Robespierre, Oscar St.Just, King George III… maybe even extend it to Santa Ana down in Mexico… Why is Tecmo/Koei not making this? NAPOLEONIC WARRIORS! LIBERTY WARRIORS! REVOLUTION WARRIORS! DYNASTY WARRIORS: THE AGE OF NAPOLEON (or REVOLUTION)! I’d play this in a heartbeat!
