Creggan CommunityCollective: Creggan community collective wish to register our absolute disgust at the antics of Triax in their overt discimination against a disabled Bogside resident due to their perception of his political beliefs. Triax, who describe themselves as a Neighbourhood renewal task-force for the Bogside, Brandywell, Creggan , Fountain and Bishop St areas were contacted by a disabled man in the Bogside area who had requested his grass to be cut by them as he has severe mobility issues which means he cannot undertake these tasks himself. He noticed some days later that neighbouring gardens were then being cut by Triax workers and when he spotted senior Triax/Sinn fein member Colm Barton, he asked why they had missed his garden. Mr Barton stated to him that in order to proceed with the grass cutting he would first need to discuss the poster in his window and pointed to an Independent election poster which he had on display at an upstairs room. A concerned neighbour, who later noticed that the disabled mans garden had not been cut as others were, challenged Mr Barton about it and he made a further reference to her that they would need to talk about the poster in the mans window before any work would take place. The same neighbour later spotted a general worker from Triax and asked why his garden had not been cut and the same reference to the poster was made almost word for word. Creggan community collective were made aware of the situation and contacted the Bogside resident who stated that felt he was being discriminated against due to his perceived political beliefs . He stated: Had I a DUP poster up instead of an Independent poster, theyd likely be tripping over themselves to do the work as they constantly promote themselves as being cross community! I am disabled. I have serious problems in getting around and they know that. I even offered to pay them and they didnt take me on! Members of the collective then undertook the work to clear the mans garden. ----------------------- This is a body in receipt of Public funding who apparently have to answer to those providing the funding year on year and is not the first time Triax have discriminated against people within our community they deem to hold different political beliefs from their own. This behaviour is reprehensible and should not be tolerated. Disgraceful Political discrimination !
