Crested geckos, such as my Gladys, are very popular as pets. Cresties come in a wide array of colors and patterns, and the presence of large eyes with spines that look like eyelashes increase the cute factor. Their tails are prehensile, so if they do break off, they will never grow back. It is estimated that around half of the wild population in New Caledonia are missing their tails. While cresties will consume crickets and other small insects, their diet does need to be supplemented with flower nectar and bee pollen. In the wild, these nocturnal lizards will go to flowers and lick up the nectar. Commercial diets are available. Misting the enclosure daily with water will allow the gecko to lap up the droplets.
