Cria Bear and I had the most amazing honor of officiating at the handfasting of Meleah Rebecca McCammon and her husband Donald McCammon! He was dressed in a beautiful period style swordsmen shirt and leather pants and boots and gloves with an athame on one hip, stunning one, too, and a rapier sword on the other, gorgeous sword! She was dressed as the queen of New Orleans herself, absolutely gorgeous, black and white tapestry and lace New Orleans style hooped skirt and black corset that was laced to reveal a stunning back tatoo! She carried a black lace lined in red satin parasol and had a matching silk bouquet of black and white! She used a handfasting cloth with a black satin cord for the hand binding ceremony. This piece was stunning. Hand embroidered so much love and work in it and the embroidery included symbology important to both in the center and hand sewn beadwork throughout the piece and embroidered runes on each end. Stunning! The handfasting occurred at Wheatland Plantations and for all of you ghost hunters this places spirit activity would blow the ghostbusters meters off the charts! The owners are absolutely very kind and wonderful people and told me so many wonderful stories of the live apparitions of John Seviers men, the battles there, the murder in the blood room, and the slaves on the property and the Native American Cherokee Indian Ancestory , which is very strong there, and how they dont get a lot of sleep because all these ghost talk to them or just let them know they are there! They have ghostwalks and tours and to tour the house and grounds is only $10 sounds like a lot of fun and a great history lesson for the whole family! The faery children were so happy there last night they danced and wore their satins as they played and jumped in the leaves just a wonderful sight! I got to dance with some of the really young faery girls we giggled and smiled and whirled and twirled! The potluck feast reception was done in true all out yum so much wonderful homemade full feasting mode I was stuffed! Berries of all kinds and cheeses and tons of chicken and pot roast and veggies and salads and homemade biscuits and tons of desserts and wine and fine scotch flowing and hibiscus tea!!! The guests were dressed up for the Dios De La Muertes Season from those elegantly dressed in purple beading and butterflies to those in skull witchess hats and dressed like a Dios De La Muertes Doll and we had bohemians and punkers and vampires in suits, pharoahs and gorgeous vamps with side miniature top hats. Some of the guests you might recognize were Dave Hunter and Mary Elizabeth and Jennifer Shultz the place was packed with kith and kin and an all and all was an absolutely magickal and mystical and spiritual evening with good family and friends! Thank you Meleah and Don for the honor of Cria Bear and I getting to officiate the union of Odinist Warrior and Miss New Orleans Hoodoo herself! It was quite unique and quite romantic! The nuptials included a sword and chalice ceremony, symbolic great rite for cakes and ale, and a Purification of Past Hurts Broom Ceremony that was between the couple(perfect for this New Year time) and a Petal Ceremony where the attendees put there one word blessing into a live rose petal and then gifted the couple with the rose petals for them to make into something yummy for their first year anniversary...I think Meleah mentioned making quail with rose petal gravy yummm and then some verses form the Song of Solomon as declarations of love between the two and then the Jumping the Broom ceremony all beautiful all powerful and very moving!!!! Really make an effort to check out Meleahs store Curiosities on Sutherland Avenue in Knoxville, Tn many wonderful treasure abound there and you can fill all your metaphysical needs and many vintage clothing and home decorating treasures abound there and then take the family for a day out and a picnic at Wheatland Plantations they have put a lot of work and love into the authentic restoration of this plantation and the linea and summer house and visit the graveyard and battlefield and reconnect with your local heritage!Meant to mention that Meleah has setup an absolutely fabulously decorated Hoodoo, bohemian, New Orleans style ancestor altar so visitors can honor their Ancestors while they are there. Live rose petals were strewn through the walkways and on the summer house porch during the ceremony the scent wafted through your olfactory senses and the ancestors came in support, the spirits of the land and house stood and nodded in approval and were pleased with the festivities and guests and the land smiled and hugged us and it was an absolutely amazing experience and memory! I cant wait to see this hidden gem , this wonderful woman again at her shop because she is truly Blessed with spirit and a wonderful community Leader in the making and just a beautiful and caring spirit. I feel so very , very Blessed to have been able to be apart of such an intimate moment in her life! Happy New Year community...Blessings abound...!!!!
