Crime Main article: Crime in St. Louis Since the mid-1990s, St. Louis index crime rates have declined, although rates of violent crime and property crime in the city of St. Louis remain higher than both the state and United States national averages.[78] St. Louis also frequently is ranked among the most dangerous in the country by CQ Press, although these rankings are controversial and do not reflect the crime rate of Greater St. Louis.[79][80] In 2012, St. Louis ranked at number 4 of the top 5 most dangerous cities in America comparing violent crime rates, behind Flint, Michigan, Detroit, and Oakland.[81]
