Crime Report Police Arrest 5 NSCDC Officers For Scooping Fuel Five officers of the Kwara State unit of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have been arrested by the police for scooping leaking fuel they were detailed to guard and protect. In the wake of an NNPC pipeline leakage in Ilorin recently and the likelihood of citizens wanting to scoop the licking fuel, the NSCDC officers were mobilized to the spot to guard and prevent anyone from carrying out the act. But the NSCDC officers were caught scooping the product into several of their private jerry cans. Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, Olufemi Fabode, who confirmed the arrest to journalists, maintained that the NSCDC officers were arrested about 10:00p.m on Wednesday evening. Explaining how the officers were arrested, Fabode says, “Around 10 pm on Wednesday, our men got information that some people were siphoning fuel from an NNPC pipeline leakage along Asa Dam area. On getting there they met some civil defence officers who came with a lot of jerry cans inside private vehicle that they took to that place for that purpose. We found those vehicles they use in siphoning the fuel. These men were supposed to provide security to the area,” Fabode said. The police image maker said that investigation was still ongoing on the matter. Continuing, Fabode says, “NNPC discovered there was a leakage in that place; they now employed them to be guarding the place but the people employed to be guarding the place are the ones siphoning the fuel. They were only two before but three others joined them with their vehicles to enable them carry whatever they must have siphoned from that place. Kwara State Commandant of NSCDC, Mr. Yerima Gana, when contacted claimed he was not aware of the development. -National Mirrior
