Crime Scene Personnel Receive Commendation The Charleston Police Department Crime Scene Unit was recently recognized with Letters of Commendation for: • Recovering latent fingerprints that have led to the identification of perpetrators • Processing crime scenes thoroughly and carefully • Providing testimony in court to aid the jury in reaching a verdict • Consistently maintaining the integrity of evidence from the crime scene to the courtroom Here are a few specific examples of the outstanding job being done by members of the Crime Scene Unit: Forensic evidence recovered at the scene of a burglary on October 20, 2014 on Magnolia Avenue in the Wagener Terrace Neighborhood led to the arrest of a suspect in that incident. The evidence was submitted to the Richland County Sheriff’s Laboratory for analysis, where they were able to extract DNA from it identifying the suspect. On December 8, 2014, members of the Crime Scene Unit responded to a St. Margaret Street residence in reference to a theft from a motor vehicle. Someone entered an unlocked vehicle and stole an iPhone and a checkbook. The vehicle was processed for evidence and fingerprints were recovered which were used to identify a suspect who has been arrested and charged for that crime. Members of the unit provided testimony during the murder trial of Robert Kronsberg, who was convicted of murdering his 25-year old girlfriend Tasha Lucia. He strangled and beat Lucia with a hammer in addition to stabbing her as many as fifteen times. Members of the Crime Scene Unit are dedicated to providing investigative support in the area of physical evidence analysis to the Charleston Police Department and other local agencies.
