Crime of the Week Asks For Help In Finding Hit & Run Driver A 19-year old is killed at the hands of a hit and run driver. Investigators from the El Paso Police Department’s Special Traffic Investigation Unit are asking for the public’s assistance in finding the person responsible through the Crime Stoppers “Crime of the Week.” On the early morning hours of Saturday, July 12th, 2014, 19-year old Joe Anthony Hernandez was walking along the area of Lomaland and Gateway West, when a vehicle struck him and fled the scene. Based on evidence at the scene, investigators believe the vehicle to be a 1999 Ford Mustang, with damage to the hood area and windshield. Investigators have also learned that, there was a dark colored truck, and a small light colored car with several individuals that parked at the Whataburger. The occupant s of these vehicles attempted to aid the victim, but left the scene before emergency crews arrived. Investigators are also asking that any witnesses come forward and contact police immediately. Anyone with any information on the whereabouts of the vehicle and drive involved in this hit and run that left a 19-year old teen dead is asked this case is asked to call Crime Stoppers of El Paso immediately at 566-8477(TIPS), on-line at crimestoppersofelpaso.org or you can send a text message by entering the key word “CRIME1” (no space and include the quotation marks) plus your tip information, and text it to CRIMES (274637).
