Criminal Activity Alert 08.15.2014 17:30 CDST Breaking and Entering of Motor Vehicles and subsequent theft of property found inside continues to occur in many areas of Lee County. Auburn and Opelika Police along with the Sheriffs Office have received numerous reports in their jurisdictions and reports of vehicle burglaries have been reported to other east central Alabama / west central Georgia agencies as well. Neighborhood residents tips have been very helpful and investigators have been able to identify suspects in several on-going case investigations. In some situations, crime locations have been identified by perpetrators but no report was filed by the victim. Victims are encouraged to report crimes when they occur to help law enforcement identify and apprehend those responsible. Lee countys population is currently estimated at nearly 150,000. Increases in crime are an unfortunate factor in rapidly growing areas like ours. Residents can help to reduce vehicle burglaries in two specific ways. One is to remove any valuables from your car and the second is to lock the doors. Removing the opportunity for a crime to occur is a key element to crime prevention.
