Criminal abnomalities and fraternity of the ruling class. National Confab must address poverty.- Don Anthony Harmattan The argument for and against the derivation of federal allocation from the present 13% to an increased proportion has been rocking the National Confab as a delegate kicked against it on the basis that the increased allocation will only go into the pockets of thievery Governors instead of people. Malam Nasiru Kura of the Civil Society organizations exposed how a former Governor of Rivers state pocketed state resources at the detriment of the rivers state people and now built the best yet to be commissioned private hospital in Abuja and for which Peter Odili also a delegate to the confab and former Governor, also a medical doctor by profession came on the defensive and denied ownership of the hospital. We also know that the former Governor of Anambra state Peter Obi also built the best shopping Mall in Abuja all with illegal money stollen from the people from their derivation allocation. In Abia state the Abian people are battling with outgoing governor Theodora Orji whose sale of the Umuahia market and his massive estate is still astonishing and causing rouse including the fact that his son is given out new brands Toyota Camry to his old school friends. The story of former Delta state Governor Chief James Ibori and how he gave a whopping cash of $15 million dollars to EFCC Nuhu Ribadu is still fresh in our minds. Are all these their personal money? Yet many Nigerians clap and dance for them only to get peanuts from money which should have otherwise been for the exclusive right and use of all. The question is how can we put to optimum utilization any increased derivation allocation that will be approved by the national confab. Isnt it worthy to establish a social and development funds with the increased funds accruing to the youths of those States? This is because government cant be pocketing the peoples money while you tell the citizens to go to bed on an empty stomach, in such situations, can we still have the envisaged peace? In Kuwait, and Arab gulf regions that produces oil, or Norway as the case may be, their citizens are paid yearly allowances from oil revenues. In Dubai this is more or less why almost every family is rich and which accounts for the boom in business there. Nigeria may not survive as a nation if its Rulers or so called leaders continue to align themselves to steal public money and live in affluence while its citizens perish in wantom poverty. It is time for the national confab to address this criminal abnomality and fraternity of the ruling class.
