Criminal defendants seem to have a special kind of mindset. They always have never done nothing and are being set up by the police. They refuse to take responsibility for their actions. And, while I am well aware that the police are not always truthful in their reports, at some point, you must realize that when it looks bad, you might want to cut your losses. There will be no Perry Mason moment. There will be no magic rabbit pulled from a hat. There will be no miraculous last minute evidence suddenly discovered that will exonerate you. There will be no sudden witness that will come out of the woodwork to pull your own ass out of the fire. If you are a multiple offender, you need to realize that at some point, probation is NOT an option anymore. There will be jail time. I can only do so much with what I have to work with. Sometimes, when all you have to deal with is shit, you can only make a shit sandwich.
