Crippling Gas Price Costs is a Consequence of Capitalism On 4 November 2014, Dawn reported, Amid a controversy over excessive power billing, the government is set to face another wave of public outcry as gas tariff for all categories of consumers, including domestic, is likely to be increased by three to five times in a month or so. Our estimate is that a domestic consumer who receives a monthly bill of Rs500 will get a bill of about Rs5,000, an Ogra official told Dawn. As usual the government denied such reports, but what it cannot deny is the previous great rises in gas prices and the fact that when public attention is diverted elsewhere the government continuously raises the price. Moreover, the backs of the Muslims of Pakistan are being broken as the entire energy sector is undergoing whole-scale privatization, with accompanying rises in prices to ensure profit for the private parties that are the new owners. Capitalism holds private ownership of all property as an ideal. It frowns upon state ownership as a necessary evil. It has no concept of public ownership of energy, unlike Islam. As a consequence, Capitalism has ensured the privatization of huge sources of revenue, which in origin should fall under public ownership, such as energy and minerals, or predominately state owned, such as heavy industry, telecommunications, arms manufacture and telecommunications. So private companies have become owners of immense wealth, such that some have more than small countries. This has occurred at the cost of society and this indiscriminate privatization of property is one of the main mechanisms in Capitalism for the concentration of wealth in the hands of a few. To add to the woes of the people, having deprived society of the great sources of wealth, democratic countries then greatly increase taxation upon the common man so as to raise revenues for looking after the peoples affairs. It is high time that the Muslims ended the worlds economic misery, by establishing the Khilafah. The Khilafah through implementation of the Shariah laws related to property will provide an inspiring economic model for all of humankind, as it did for centuries previously. Source: khilafah
